FRP Plants in India

Besides other customized consumer products such as foils, flat rolled products (FRP) is one of the value added products which is obtained from the mining of bauxite. In order to expand the aluminium business with the help of bauxite mining, most of the leading aluminium and copper producers have established their FRP plants in India.

List of FRP Plants in India

Some of the major FRP Plants in India are:

HINDALCO: The metals flagship firm of the Aditya Birla Group, Hindalco Industries Limited, is one of the primary producers of aluminium and copper. The firm earned the net profit of RS 344.1cr in 2009 with net sales and operating incomes amounting to ` 4,917.1 cr. It has its FRP plant at Mouda, near Nagpur and has total FRP capacity and production of 85,000 tonnes and 70,100 tonnes respectively. In the second quarter of 2010 Hindalco's FRP production rose drastically at 57,787MT against 51, 819 of 2009's second quarter. The company generally account for the production of 71% of Aluminium FRP and 57% of entire domestic production of Aluminium Foil.

BALCO: Bharat Aluminium Company (Balco), has its Aluminium FRP plant in Korba located in the state of Chattisgarh. It is one of the five major producers of aluminium FRP in India. In the year 2008-09, BALCO generated 356,781 MT of Aluminium FRP and to further augment its aluminium production capacity, BALCO signed a MoU with the Chattisgarh State Government on August 8, 2007.

NALCO: National Aluminium Company (NALCO), headquartered in Bhubhaneshwar, is one of the biggest aluminium FRP producers in Asia. It also has its plants for bauxite mining, smelting and alumina refining with supplementary trade prospects in power production and rail and port functions. NALCO is all set to construct a 310,000-tonne smelter plant worth Rs.80-billion and a power plant in Iran. It is also looking forward to construct an aluminium producing plant in Indonesia, the production of which is estimated to be around 500,000 tonnes.
