Uttarakhand Annual Plan 2008-09

Abstract: The Uttarakhand Annual Plan 2008-09 outlay was fixed at Rs. 4775 crores. The Planning Commission suggested measures for the all round development in the sectors such as, tourism, infrastructure, etc.
Uttarakhand Annual Plan 2008-09 - Overview
The Uttarakhand Annual Plan 2008-09 was agreed at Rs. 4775 crores, in a meeting between the Chief Minister of Uttaranchal, Shri B. C. Khanduri and Shri Montek Singh Ahluwalia, the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission. The amount includes Central Government Aid of Rs. 300 crores for developing the infrastructure of the SAF Winter Games and Kumbh Mela, and several other important projects pertaining to the state.
Uttarakhand - Performance
The Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, Mr. Ahluwalia commented on the state's performance. He said that, the growth rate of the state is good and the planned expenditure as per the Tenth Plan was contributing to the development of the state. The success in the agricultural sector was worth mentioning. One of the problems that remained was the low per capita income of the state. The poverty level is still higher than the all India level. Creating employment opportunities in the state has been identified as one of the primary concern areas.
Uttarakhand Annual Plan 2008-09 - Glimpses
  • The state is well known for its tourism. The tourism sector was immensely successful during the Tenth Plan and the state has plans of making further developments to make it a world standard tourist spot. The state wants to develop high value tourism by developing required infrastructure facilities.
  • The Industrial Policy would be driven by subsidies and the identified industries should have proper chalked out plans of action.
  • The state should take proper effort to provide all round development to the state by means of infrastructure development and other social services. Almost 37% of the allocated resources are reserved for the social services.
  • The state has asked for support from the Central Government pertaining to the industrialization and extension of the tax holiday, and silting of dams.
