The 11th Auto Expo, believed to be the largest automobile exhibition in Asia, is all set to begin from 5th January 2012 at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. A perfect platform to showcase the automobiles and automotive components to the world, Auto Expo has made a niche in the Indian automobile sector.

Due to its growing importance and popularity, many automobile giants across the world come to this event to showcase their latest releases.

   

Highlights of Auto Expo 2012

Jointly organized by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), the Auto Expo 2012, will showcase the latest technological advancement in Indian Automobile Industry.

The exhibition acts as an launchpad for novelty on Indian roads. This year the focus of this mega event is on environmental safety, efficiency and fuel management. The main highlights of the event are as follows:

Automobile Industry in India

The Indian Automobile industry, the seventh largest in the world, occupies an eminent place in India's overall growth canvas. A robust Transportation system significantly adds to the country's overall economic and industrial development. And to support the varied requirements of this diverse country, Indian Automobile Industry produces a varied range of vehicles which includes passenger vehicles, light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, multipurpose vehicles like, cars, scooters, motorcycles, three wheelers, mopeds, tractors etc. As a result of which India has become an outsourcing hub for Global automobile manufacturers.

Overview: Auto Expo 2012

Yamaha, the Japanese two-wheeler maker said that it has planned to invest Rs. 800 crore in next two years, on the expansion of capacity of their plants and new product development. Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd, wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha in India, now has two plants with a total capacity to manufacture around 6.5 lakh two wheelers per annum. The officials also claimed to sell 10 lakh two-wheelers by 2014.

Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has launched the world's first hydrogen-fuel-run three-wheeler HyAlfa that will run on Delhi's roads soon. The vehicles will be refueled at a station set up by US-based Air Products located at Pragati Maidan, where the fleet will operate.

Shortcomings of Auto Expo 2012

Instead of having first two days reserved for Media and and VIPs, most of the people attended the event said that the venue was overcrowded. Some of them have complained that there was no proper arrangements for internal commutation. Several business officials have expressed dissatisfaction over the organization and mismanagement of the international show.
