Abstract:
FDI from Singapore to India has taken place for many Singapore firms such as Singtel, Temasek Holdings, and Singapore Technologies Telemedia have made investments in the country. FDI from Singapore to India has taken place in various sectors of the country like transportation industries, fuel and electrical equipments.
Major Singapore investments in India:
The major Singapore Government linked projects in India are the involvement of the Port of Singapore Authority in the management as well as equity of Gujarat's Pipavav Port and Singtel's joint collaboration with the company Bharti Telecom.Further the major Singapore Government linked projects in India are Singapore Technologies Telemedia's joint collaboration with the company ModiCorp and Port of Singapore Authority's contract for a period of thirty years for the management and operation of the Port of Tuticorin.
In India, the Government of Singapore Investment Corporation has been registered as Financial Institutional Investors and it has made a commitment of around ` 119 million in HDFC Ltd. Further the main Singapore investments in India has come from Temasek Holdings which is an investment arm of the Singapore Government and which has acquired a stake of around 14% in Matrix Laboratories, Hyderabad by investing about US$ 114.7 million in January, 2004. All this shows that there has been a steady flow of FDI from Singapore to India.
Flow of foreign direct investments from Singapore to India:
The flow of FDI from Singapore to India stood at US$ 37.7 million in 2003, in 2004 this figure came to US$ 64.1 million, in 2005 this figure increased to US$ 317.9 million, and the next year this figure stood at US$ 87.5 million.
