McDowell & Company was established in India in 1898 and in 1951, it was acquired by the UB Group. McDowell & Company is the largest spirits company in the country with a market share of about 52%. The company has its production network spread in more than 75 production locations and its Chairman is Dr. Vijay Mallya.
It sells more than 56 million cases through Herbertsons Ltd & Shaw Wallace, McDowell, and Triumph Distillers & Vintners. McDowell & Company is the biggest spirits company in India with a market share of around 52%. McDowell & Company has more than 140 brands and out of this around 15 belong to the category of millionaire brands. The company has a widespread manufacturing network that is spread over 75 production locations.
McDowell & Company's eleven group distilleries have received the certification of ISO 9002. The four brands of the company that are McDowell's No.1 Celebration Rum, Bagpiper Whiskey, McDowell's No.1 Whiskey and McDowell's No. 1 Brandy have made it among the global alcobev brands top 100. McDowell & Company is the first company to promote and sponsor brands by marketing events like football, grand prix, tennis and derby. It is also the first company in India to deal in foreign brands of beer, perfumes, cigars, spirits, wines and lifestyle products.
McDowell & Company is the first company in the country to launch a whiskey of single malt named McDowell's Single Malt in 1992. The company is also the first in India to launch Deluxe Scotch Whiskey Black Dog in 1994. In India, McDowell & Company is the pioneer of drinks that are pre- mixed for it launched brands such as Tango and Gin - Blue Riband Duet. In 1999, the company launched, for the first time in the country, low alcoholic beverages that are ready to drink called McDowell's Mixed Doubles. The Chairman of McDowell & Company is Dr. Vijay Mallya and the Vice Chairman is Mr. Subhash R. Gupte.
