India has emerged as a key player in the arena of shipping and logistics. During the year 2009 when there was an economic turmoil worldwide along with careful investments there was an unparalleled growth of the capital interest of Indian logistics.

The 2010 budget for shipping and logistics industry is full of expectations owing to the consequences of the economic downturn in 2009. Relief expected will be mainly in the form of tax benefits so as to encourage industry recuperation. There is a wide speculation that the shipping industry needs to refurbish its resources and modernize facilities.

The current problems of the Shipping and logistics sector lies in increased competition that may lead to lowered freight charges. There is also a low yield out of the assets that may have been acquired over the last few years. Other problems of the shipping and logistics industry lie in the presence of its excess capacity tankers, bulk carriers and container ships.
