Bata India or Bata India Ltd. (BIL) is an India-based manufacturer and marketer of footwear products. Bata India was established in 1931and was initially promoted by the parent company Bata Shoe Organization, Toronto, Canada.
Bata India business activities involve manufacture of different types of footwear made from rubber, canvas, leather, and plastic. Today, with an installed capacity of 425,00,000 and 15,96,000 for rubber and leather products respectively, Bata India is the largest manufacturer and marketer of footwear products in India.
Further, it sells around 60 million pairs of footwear per year cumulatively in India and in countries like USA, UK, Europe, Middle East, and Far East. Bata India is headquartered in Kolkata, India and has 5 plants located in Batanagar, Faridabad, Bangalore, Patna, Hosur.
Furthermore, it is equipped with 2 tanneries for its leather supply in Bihar and West Bengal. BIL operates through a wide network of over 1,600 exclusive retail stores and 27 wholesale depots with 40 production facilities across 26 countries.

Bata India has 8 globally popular brands. The company has also tied up with the giant footwear company Adidas, to set up a manufacturing unit for shoes and apparels in India. Bata India registered net sales ` 1826.70 million for the quarter ended March, 2007 and the company's net profit stood at ` 53.50 million for the same period.
