Bongaigaon Refinery, also known as Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd (BRPL) is an India-based refinery integrated with petrochemical manufacturing facility.
The Bongaigaon Refinery was established in 1974 and the Government of India held the entire equity of the company till 1991. In the year 2001, 74.46% equity of Bongaigaon Refinery was divested to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL). BRPL became a subsidiary of Indian Oil from March, 2001. In India, Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. was the first indigenous refinery to have an integrated petrochemical complex at one single location.
The present oil refining capacity of Bongaigaon Refinery is around 2.35 MMTPA. This Assam-based refinery strictly conforms to environment friendly manufacturing practices and the manufacturing facility is well-connected by a wide network of dealers and sub-dealers spread across India. The LPG bottling plant of Bongaigaon Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd. is under the control of Indian Oil. BRPL and Indian Oil have merged and the later is empowered to take decisions on mergers. Indian Oil has lent R&D support to BRPL for product upgradation and development.
The Bongaigaon Refinery registered net sales of Rs. 6426 crore for the year ended 31st March, 2006-2007 and the company's net profit stood at Rs. 185 crore for the same period. Bongaigaon Refinery is headed by Mr. Sarthak Behuria, Chairman.
