Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) was set up in 1990 and is under the Jindal Group. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd.'s main activities include production of ferro chrome, steel, sponge iron (coal-based), and also to generate power.
The company manufactures steel products of a wide range like track rails and crane rails, MS rounds, blooms and billets, columns and beams, and beam banks. Jindal Steel & Power has established a universal rail beam unit in India that is manufacturing finished rail120 meter long which is the longest in the world. Jindal Steel & Power Company is providing power to Raigarh's Industrial Estate and State Electricity Board of Chhattisgarh at Rs. 2.5 per unit.
Jindal Steel & Power has a mine of iron-ore in Tensa which is in Orissa. The company has the biggest sponge iron coal based production unit in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh. The total income of the Jindal Power & Steel Company amounted to Rs. 6,694 million in 2005-2006 and the next year the amount increased to Rs. 12,327.3 million. The net profit of the Jindal Steel & Power Company amounted to Rs. 1,530.9 million in 2005-2006 and the next year the figure stood at Rs. 2,501.1 million.
Jindal Steel & Power is expanding for it is setting up a steel plant with the production capacity of 6 million tons in Orissa and Jharkhand. It is also setting up a 1000MW power plant in Chhattisgarh. This plant will be constructed with an investment of more than Rs. 45,000 million. Jindal Steel & Power has helped the states in meeting the demand for power by supplying it in very low rates.
