International taxation is a branch of knowledge pertaining to the international aspects of tax laws and international tax treaties. The specialists in international taxation are highly in demand among the transnational companies because these international taxation experts are renowned to lower tax liabilities of several companies. The international taxation is popular among the accountants and lawyers engaged in legal system of taxation. The international taxation programs are provided by several renowned universities across the world. Some of the well known universities offering programs on international taxation are European Tax College, University of Florida, Universiteit van Tilburg, Catholic University of Leuven, University of New South Wales, New York University, Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration, Levin College of Law, University of Sydney, Universiteit Maastricht, University of Hamburg, etc.

The taxation is imposed on the residents of a particular country residing in that country and earning an income, both as an employee and as self-employee, corporations and commercial organizations based in that country and engaged business operations to make profits, foreign-based corporations and commercial organizations but engaged in business operations to make profits within the territories of that country. Individual or corporate taxable income which is earned in a foreign country is exempted under the legal system pertaining to taxation of the country in order to avoid double taxation, i.e. taxation is imposed twice. In India, the taxation is based on the Income tax Act. The study of international taxation are based on the factors governing the taxation system of a particular country, and being familiar with those factors is the job of an expert on international taxation. The experts must be very well versed with the knowledge on laws administrating the international taxation which plays an important part in the analysis of the international taxation.

In the year 2006, the Foundation for International Taxation (FIT), a registered charitable trust was established. The main purpose of the Foundation for International Taxation was the promotion of international taxation and to understand the branch of international taxation in a better way in India. The foundation was the brainchild of Professor Roy Rohatgi. Along with a group of the top brass tax professionals the Foundation for International Taxation is one of the best in the world. The foundation also plans to boost the knowledge on the laws pertaining to international taxation and comparative taxation by the means of training, research, and other related activities. The Foundation for International Taxation plans to deal with various issues regarding to international taxation in order to gather in hand experience in matters related to international taxation.
