Employee's State Insurance Corporation
Employee's State Insurance Corporation is a legislation for social welfare and offers various benefits to the employees during their time of need. The Employee's State Insurance Act of 1948, aims at protecting the interest of the employers during their time of sickness, maternity, disablements and many others. This corporation guarantees adequate medical facilities to the workers and their dependents.
ESIC offers coverage program to the non-seasonal factories that employs 20 or more employees. At present it also covers factories having 10 or more persons. Apart from the factories, the insurance facilities are also offered to restaurants, shops, cinemas, hotels, theaters, newspaper establishment and transport undertakings. The maximum coverage that is extended is Rs.10,000/- per month.
ESIC schemes are covered in various states and union territories. Employee's State Insurance Corporation is a body that has number of members who represent State Governments, medical profession employers, employees, the Central Government, and the Parliament. The body also has a Medical Benefit Council for extending medical benefits to the people.
Employee's State Insurance Corporation has its headquarters at the capital city of New Delhi. Apart from this, there are 12 sub-regional offices at Barrackpore, Coimbatore, Hubli, Madurai, Noida, Nagpur, Pune, Surat, Vijayawada, Vadodara, Tirunelveli, Varanasi and 23 regional offices and 844 local offices and cash offices that are spread all over the country.
Employee's State Insurance Corporation runs some important hospitals for the medical benefits of the people. The important hospitals include the ESI Hospital, Thakurpukur at Calcutta, ESI Hospital, K.K. Nagar at Chennai and ESI Hospital at Nagda.
