Taxi or cab is the vehicle that we often need to hire to move between places. Mostly 4-wheeled cars, taxis come with drivers. There can be various types of taxi services in India. Some of the taxis are air-conditioned, while some others are non-AC. Some taxis may have meter and they charge according to the meter. On the other hand, there are also some taxi services in India, which charge according the distance covered (per km charge) or time hired (charge per hour). One can also find different types of cars used as taxis.
Types of Cars
Different types of cars are used in taxi services in India. Most of the metered taxis in India are 'Ambassador' car. In non-metered taxis, different types of cars are used including Ambassador, Tata Indica, Maruti Omni, Maruti 800, Hyundai Santro. If you are looking for a big car, you can hire Tata Sumo, Mahindra Scorpio, Sumo Victa etc., which can accommodate up to 10 passengers. If you are looking for some luxury cars, you can hire Honda City, Toyota Innova, Hyundai Accent, Corolla etc. You also have the option to choose between AC and non-AC cars.
Where to Find Taxis?
Metered taxis are available on the streets. No prior booking in necessary for those as you can hail cabs on the street. There are also taxi stands located in various parts across every city where you can find taxis. You can also avail taxi services in India by calling taxis. There are organizations, which send taxis to the home of the caller, upon request over telephone. There are also 'pre-paid taxi booths' located in important points across the city like rail stations, airports etc., where you can book your cab by paying the stipulated amount before boarding taxi. You don't need to pay to the driver in this case.
There are also a number of taxi service providers that offer taxi services in India. You can call them up and hire a car for your journey. You can choose from a range of cars, according to your need and budget. They usually charge in three modes - on the basis of distance covered (charge per km) or on the basis of time spent (charge per hour), whichever is higher. You can also hire the car at a lump sum amount (the amount is sent according to the destination).
