Infosys is a multinational company that provides IT services to its clients in India as well as abroad. Infosys Technologies is one of the largest IT service providing companies in India with 9 development centers in India and 30 IT offices across the globe.
Infosys Ltd. provides both IT solutions and consulting services to its clients. Infosys Technologies imbibes the power to conceptualize and understand the technology driven business strategies within its employees. It empowers its workforce to think best and makes them confident enough to take independent decisions as well as implement them. The company has its headquarter at Bangalore, India. All the units of Infosys including the global ones have employed around 80,000 people and the revenue earned by the company is more than USD 3.1 billion with a market capitalization of more than USD 30 billion for the financial year 2006-07.
N. R. Narayana Murthy was the founder of Infosys and the company was set up by him on 2nd July, 1981. Along with Mr. Murthy, there were 6 other people also who had contributed largely in the establishment of Infosys Technologies. They were Ashok Arora , N. S. Raghavan, S. D. Shibulal, Nandan Nilekani, K. Dinesh, and Kris Gopalakrishnan. Another person named Raghavan also contributed a lot in the company and he is claimed to be the very first employee in Infosys. The company was first started by Mr. Murthy with an amount of ` 10000 which he borrowed from his wife Sudha Murthy with its registered office at Mumbai and it was initially named as Infosys Consultants Pvt. Ltd.
In 1983, Infosys shifted its headquarters from Mumbai to Bangalore, a state and also the capital of Karnataka. Infosys Ltd. got its first global client called Data Basics Corporation from United States in 1987. The most major product manufactured by Infosys Technologies apart from IT services and solutions is Finacle, which is a financial software used mainly for banking purposes. Infosys is one of the most well-known pioneers in offshore outsourcing and as it brought back jobs to the United States. The motto of Infosys is to develop innovative technological and business strategies and implement them in the digital environment of today's life.
Infosys is the 1st Indian company that was listed in NASDAQ after it gained a ranking of SEI-CMM level 5 in 1999. Infosys was honored as the best employers in India in 2001 by Business Today followed by a recognition of India's most respected company by the Business World in 2002. Soon after in the three consecutive years of 2003, 2004, and 2005 the company was honored the 'Global Most Admired Knowledge Enterprises' award. It is the India's only company to have received such a prestigious award that led to the achievement of Global hall of Fame for its services.
