Child Tax Credit

Child Tax Credit is an allowance that is given to caregivers or parents of children or youngsters who are still involved in full-time education. The Tax Credit for children is a payment that is made by the government in order to help the parents with the everyday costs of bringing up children.

The Tax Child Credit is not a tax instead it is the money that the parents or the caregivers of children receive from the government and is paid even if the parents or caregivers do not pay tax. It can be claimed by a family who has to look after at least 1 child or even a young person who lives with them. Child Tax Credit offers support to a child who is aged up to 16 years, to a young person whose age is from 16 years but less than 20 years, and who is involved in non-advanced full-time education. Child Tax Credit is also applicable for a young person aged between 16 and 17 years who has left training or education and who works less than 24 hours in a week.

Child Tax Credit is provided to a young person or child if he is not claiming tax credits or benefits like incapacity benefit or income support in his own right, or if he has not been placed with a family for adoption or foster care in the case of which the local authority pays for the cost to the family, or if he has not been serving a custody sentence of over 4 months that has been imposed by a court. The amount of Child Tax Credit that the parents or caregivers receive depends on a number of factors such as the income of the parents or caregivers, the number of children or young people living with the family, and also if any young person or child is disabled. The Tax Credit for Child is paid directly into the parents or caregivers account, Post Office, building society, or account of National Savings.
