The National Rural Business Hub Council represents the members of the national rural business hub committee of India. The main activity of the National Rural Business Hub Council is to ensure smooth functioning of the national council and all the state level rural business hubs in India. The main policy statement of all the rural business hubs are drafted and implemented by this National Rural Business Hub Council. The activities of the National Rural Business Hub Council is not confined to development of Indian agricultural only, but also develops other rural Indian industries like handicraft and handloom, poultry, aquaculture, food processing, medicinal plants, bio-fuels, bio-mass based power plants, jatropha cultivation, etc.

The rural business hubs are centers of organized rural business activities in India and its concept revolves around establishment of linkage between producer and traders of rural produce of India. The state level rural business hubs in India came into existence after conclusion of the first meeting of the National Rural Business Hub Council. These state rural business hubs in India were established to give impetus to the rural business of India. According to the recommendations of the first meeting of the National Rural Business Hub Council, many Indian states have established state level rural business hubs.

The main aim of the state level rural business hubs in India are as follows -
  • Identify the scope of rural business hubs in the respective state
  • Extend support and guidance for establishment of identified rural business hubs in the particular state
  • Monitor timely implementation of such rural business hubs in the respective state of India
  • Address and arrest Government of India policies that are detrimental to the growth of rural business hubs in India
  • Form project-based task forces and core groups, based on the priorities of setting up of such rural business hubs in India
The preliminary functions of the National Rural Business Hub Council in India are as follows -
  • Gap analysis of the requirements of any particular rural business project of India
  • Drafting of provisions for value addition, to make its products acceptable in domestic and international markets
  • Sampling of the agricultural products of India and undertaking a detailed analysis of the same
  • Recommend on raw materials uses, technology, process, methodologies, design, packaging, marketing, branding, training and skill development
  • Conduct meeting of the task forces, placing of recommendations and future plans along with identifying future course of action for the task force
  • Initiate operation of rural business hubs on commercial basis

The achievements of the National Rural Business Hub Council of India are as follows -
  • Identified scope of trade in domestic and international markets
  • Generated organized employment for the rural mass of India
  • Extended technical support to innovative design, adapting and using new materials and craft styles etc as per the international norms
  • India has the largest livestock in the world, of 485 million
  • India has around 489 million poultry farms and produces around 45,200 million eggs annually
  • India is the highest milk producer in the world and produces 90 million tones of milk annually
  • India is the third largest producer of food grains and produces around 204 million tones of food grain annually
  • India is the second largest producer of fruits and vegetables and produces around 150 million tones of fruits and vegetables annually
