EPZ in East India comprises of the Falta Export Processing Zone, which has been currently renamed as the Falta Special Economic Zone. The zone was created as per the SEZ scheme and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The zones include manufacturing units engaged in exports.

Indian government introduced the concept of Export Processing Zone to boost the economy and attract more FDI inflows through the establishment of industrial enclaves, facilitated with significant fiscal as well as non fiscal benefits. The export Processing Zones came into play with the EXIM Policy published by the government of India.
Apart from the fiscal and non-fiscal benefits the individual units also offers exchange of skilled labor and technical advancements. The EPZs are facilitated with single window system, which serve to reduce the substantially lengthy process of establishment of industries and thus put a check on types of corruption.

The Export Processing Zone in East India offers various benefits such as:

  • 100 % FDI inflow for goods used in the small scale sectors
  • Reduction in unrealized export bills
  • Reduction in the duty charged on the sale of rejects

  • Exemptions on the payment of Income Tax
The project for development of the Falta Export Processing Zone was approved by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the year 1984 and in the year 1985, it was made a Customs Bonded Area.
