Chhattisgarh Finance Commission has been set up in the state so that it can act as an arbiter between the state and the central government with regard to financial matters.

The Finance Commission of Chhattisgarh also fulfills various other objectives that lead to the development of the state.

The establishment of Chhattisgarh Finance Commission:

Chhattisgarh Finance Commission has been established in the state according to the rules that have been laid down in the Constitution of India Article 243I. The article states that the governor of the state shall set up the Finance Commission in the state within the time frame of one year from the beginning of the Constitution Seventy- Third Amendment Act, 1992 and after that at the end of each fifth year.

  • To act as an arbiter between the state and the central government with regard to financial issues

  • To take such steps that lead to the improvement of the economic condition of the various Panchayats in the state
  • To decide the taxes, tolls, duties, and fees that may be levied by the various Panchayats in the state
  • To distribute between the state government and the various Panchayats in the state the taxes, duties, fees, and tolls that have been levied by the state
  • To allot the various Panchayats in the state funds from the Consolidated Fund of the State

The grants received by Chhattisgarh Finance Commission:

Chhattisgarh Finance Commission will receive from the Twelfth Finance Commission a grant amount, worth around ` 1453 crore. The Finance Commission in Chhatisgarh will receive this grant for a period of five years that is from 2005- 2006 to 2009- 2010. Chhattisgarh Finance Commission will use the money for the development of the rural areas of the state, forests conservation, municipal bodies development, and conservation of the archaeological monuments in the state.

The state government must encourage Chhattisgarh Finance Commission:

The state government of Chhatisgarh must take steps to encourage Chhattisgarh Finance Commission. For this will lead to the improvement of the condition of the various Panchayats in the state. It will also lead to the state getting more financial help from the central government. All these measures will bring about an over all development of the state.
