Remote Sensing systems is the most advanced method of scientific information gathering in this present age of technology.

Remote Sensing in India - Remote sensing is a science as well art of amassing information on spectral, spatial, and temporal grounds pertaining to area, phenomenon, and material objects without even having any kind of tangible liaison with the area, the phenomenon, or the object under scrutiny. As there is completely no kind of contact there is a need for method of information transmission from high above in the space. In Remote Sensing the use of Electromagnetic Radiation(EMR) is the method of information transmission. The information is received on earth and transformed into understandable data. Electromagnetic Radiation(EMR) is an energy form which shows its mein by the evident effects it creates on coming into contact with the matter.

Types of Remote Sensing:-

Pertaining to the type of Energy Resources:
  • Passive Remote Sensing: The reflected or emitted electromagnetic radiations from the natural sources are detected with the help of sensors

  • Active Remote Sensing: The reflected electromagnetic radiations from objects which are enlightened by sources which are artificial generator of energy like the radar, with the help of sensors
Pertaining to Wavelength Regions:

Remote Sensing in this division is classified into three types in accordance with the type of energy used:
  • Thermal Infrared Remote Sensing
  • Microwave Remote Sensing
  • Visible and Reflective Infrared Remote Sensing
This is a technique which is regarded as the most efficient method of information gathering. Photographs and Imageries taken aerially convey large amounts of unprocessed data. This data has to be interpreted to provide the valuable information required for the particular purpose. The technique is very useful for the data on environment, map sites, more detailed field investigations planning, discover certain classes of properties, location and confirmation of the existence of anticipated sites.

The types of images are:-
  • PAN Images
  • LISS III
  • IKONOS
