Google has reiterated that, its much hyped 'Android' phone system is on track. The Internet giant has assured its investors and eager probable consumers about the systems' launch within 2008.

The 'Android' phone system is an open source software designed specially to run smart phones. The software is being developed to counter more expensive proprietary softwares like Microsoft and Symbian. Availability of the Open Source platform across all phone companies is likely to lower the acquiring cost of smart phones.
The Android software is expected to run in all 30 phone companies belonging to the Open Handset Alliance. The alliance is expected to advance the technology with the progress of time.
A prototype Android phone was inaugurated in the February 2008 at Mobile World Congress. The phone's current competitor is the Apple iPhone.
