Apart from these, there are 9 gypsum producing units under Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited, operating through another division known as the Jodhpur Mining Organization. Under the Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act 1985, the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction declared the Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited as a sick industry in 1992. Within the next decade, the Indian government concluded all the other fertilizer production units of this public sector fertilizer company except the Jodhpur Mining Organization, which thereafter existed as a separate unit. However, the main reasons for the loss incurred by the Fertilizer Corporation Of India Limited are higher incidence of interest, higher input costs especially regarding the power tariffs by the concerned State Electricity Boards, and higher consumption which was not reimbursed by the FCIL.
