Alumina Plants in India
Alumina or Aluminium Oxide is a sort of amphoteric oxide of aluminium, produced from bauxite through Bayer process. Almost all the major players in the Indian aluminium industry have their alumina plants. In fact, most of the alumina plants in India are owned by the top players in the market.
Let's have a look at the major alumina plants in India.
Hindalco Alumina Plants
Renukoot
The Renukoot plant of Hindalco was established in 1962 in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Besides alumina production, this plant also produces smelters and other semi-fabricated products. Currently, Renukoot plant has alumina production capacity of 700,000 tpa.
Belgaum
The Belgaum plant of Hindalco is located in Karnataka. Besides the production of alumina, this plant also has a world-class alumina research center. Commenced its operation in the year 1969 with the capacity of 75,000 tpa, Belgaum unit currently has alumina production capacity of 380,000 tpa. This plant is also specialized in various grades of special aluminas and hydrates. Since 1990s, Hindalco has turned this plant into an export-oriented unit of metallurgical alumina.
Muri
Muri alumina plant is considered as the first alumina refinery in India. Established in 1948, this alumina plant of Hindalco is located at Chhotamuri village, just 60 km away from Ranchi in Jharkhand. Muri has got an alumina capacity of 450,000 tpa.
