Fertilizers are substances that provide one or more of the chemicals required for plant growth.Fertilizers can be both organic and inorganic. As per industry experts, it is said that sixteen elements are necessary for plant growth. Out of these sixteen, 9 elements are required in large quantities, while the other seven are needed in smaller amounts. Since agriculture is a vital sector, the fertilizer industry is one which the Indian economy cannot do without. The fertilizer industry in India is highly vital as it manufactures some of the most critical raw materials required for crop production. The primary objective of this industry is to ensure the inflow of both primary and secondary elements as are necessary for crop production in the desired quantities.

The Indian fertilizers market is estimated to record a CAGR of 11.9% during the forecast period (2021-2026). The Indian fertilizer market reached a value of INR 887 Billion in 2020. The rise fertilizer consumption has contributed majorly to the country's sustainable production of food grains.

In the present scenario, the niti.gov.in states that 56 large plants produce nitrogenous, phosphatic and complex fertilisers and 72 medium and small fertilizer production units under the Indian fertilizer industry, which have single super Phosphate (SSP). The main products manufactured by the fertilizer industry in India are phosphate-based fertilizers, nitrogenous fertilizers, and complex fertilizers. With its rapid growth, the fertilizer industry in India is all set to make a long-lasting global impression.

Types of Fertilizers

Organic Fertilizer

These are the most commonly used fertilizers. Organic fertilizers are readily available and highly safe. It could be made at home. They are composed of natural and organic materials. Some popular organic fertilizers include manure, peat moss, worm castings, slurry, sewage, seaweed and guano.
