LML is one of the leading scooter manufacturers in India that has 30% of the market share in volume of the scooters. In 1972 Lohia Machines Pvt.
Limited was incorporated and was engaged in the manufacturing of synthetic yarn. In 1984 a technical collaboration agreement was signed with Piaggio Italy and a scooter project was soon set up. The brand was known as "Vespa".
In 1990, Piaggo became a partner with 23.6% equity that was equal to that of LML. In 1999, the agreement with Piaggo ended.
