Office Automation Equipment

Office automation equipments have become indispensable to run a modern office and its infrastructure. Similar to all other industries in India, the petroleum industry also requires office automation equipments for its different offices and locations. These equipments and devices include but are not limited to mailing machines, copiers, laminators, fax machines, scanners, and printers. Office automation facilitates in achieving the maximum efficiency or mechanizing the prevailing routine office functions. In the 2000s, the majority of users substituted their proprietary office automation systems with personal computer-oriented equipments.

What is office automation?

Office automation denotes the different types of software and computer equipments that are implemented to digitally generate, gather, keep, maneuver, and transmit office data essential for carrying out day-to-day jobs. Electronic transmission, raw data warehousing, and the handling of digital business data consist of the fundamental operations of an office automation system.

The mainstay of an office automation system is a LAN or Local Area Network. A Local Area Network enables users to send information, mail and even voice over the network. Every category of office operations such as typing, dictation, copying, filing, telex, fax, telephone and telephone switchboard operations, microfilm and records handling comes under this system. The expression office automation garnered significant fame in the 1970s and 1980s with the advent of desktop computer.

Office Automation Software

Office automation software is a special type of software, which was originally marketed in the 1980s. The principal objective of the office automation software was to form a "Paperless Office" and enable teams of staffs to share records and registers digitally. Normal packages comprised file storage, a word processing package, and calendar. Many companies offered these packages such as:
