Kennametal India was established in 1964 and was formerly known as Widia India Ltd. Kennametal India Ltd. manufactures mining tools, metal castings, fixtures and jigs, forming, machines for special purposes, and products made of hard metals.

Kennametal India Company also produces coated inserts, solid special carbide tools, cold forgings, and milling cutters. Kennametal India is located in Bangalore and is a subsidiary company of Kennametal Inc. The company has 2 production units and employs more than 1,600 people. Kennametal India Company also has a research and development (R&D) center located in Bangalore, which has helped the company improve the quality of its products. The products manufactured by Kennametal India Company are used by the manufacturing industries such as in the sectors of defense, engineering, and automobiles.

The total income of the Company India Kennametal amounted to Rs. 874.33 million in 2005- 2006 and the next year the figure stood at Rs. 1016.10 million. The net profit of the company stood at Rs. 149.35 million in 2005- 2006 and the next year the amount increased to Rs. 152.88 million. This shows that the Kennametal India Company's profit levels are increasing.

Kennametal India is planning to modernize its rock roller oil well bits unit. In order to upgrade the unit, the Kennametal India Ltd is planning to install new furnaces, machine tools, and tools that will lead to the modernization of the R&D center. The Kennametal India Company is making an investment of around Rs. 80-90 million for the modernization of the unit.

Kennametal Inc., the parent company of Kennametal India is enlisted on the NYSE. In 2006, Kennametal Inc. officially declared the opening of the company’s new production facility at Tianjin, China at an investment of US$ 31 million. The facility is spread over an area of 160,000 sq.ft. and predominantly deals with advanced design activities and engineering processes. Naturally, with the parent company expanding its presence across the world, Kennametal India is also set to traverse newer territories as far as R&D and production output is concerned.
