Andhra Pradesh Sugar Industry has witnessed an increase in the production level in the last few years. The Sugar Industry in Andhra Pradesh has played a major role in the development of the rural areas by providing employment to many people.

The sugar mills of Andhra Pradesh Sugar Industry are highly technologically advanced for the latest modern systems such as Molecular Sieve Dehydration System, Anaerobic Digester System, RCC Bio System, and Cane Trash System have been installed. This has ensured that the sugar that is manufactured in the Sugar Industry in Andhra Pradesh is of very high quality. The 2 grades of sugar that are mainly produced by the Andhra Pradesh Sugar Industry are S-30 and M-30.
The Sugar Industry in Andhra Pradesh can be divided into 2 sectors that are the organized sector which comprises of the sugar mills and the unorganized sector which consists of the producers of the traditional sweeteners such as khandsari and gur. The manufacture of the traditional sweeteners is considered to be a rural industry and its level of production is quite substantial. These are mainly used by the rural folk as an important nutrition source and also as sweeteners. The total sugar production of the Andhra Pradesh Sugar Industry came to 11.88 lakhs tons in 2002-2003, in 2003-2004 it stood at 8.81 lakhs tons, and in 2004-2005 the figure increased to 9.75 lakhs tons.
The government, in order to further modernize the Andhra Pradesh Sugar Industry, has given a grant of Rs. 270 crore which will surely give a major boost to the Sugar Industry in Andhra Pradesh.
