History of Dalmia Cement (Bharat)

The company was founded in 1935 by Jaidayal Dalmia, with the cement division being set up in 1939. Headquartered in New Delhi with the cement, sugar, travel agency, magnesite, refractory and electronic operations, the company boasts of over 70 years of strong experience.

In the pre-independence period, the Dalmia Group had set up four cement plants, out of which two got affected by partition and Independence. The remaining two are operational as Dalmia Cement and made steady investments in Orissa Cements Limited (OCL). DCBL has always been the pioneers in introducing new technologies, which the other peers in the same industry follow today. They are known to be the leader in their industry segment in the niche category.

Products & Solutions

Super specialty cements and Dalmia Cements have been synonymous; with an ISO 9002 certification for different products. With a highly developed plant and R&D backup, Dalmia Cements has created a brand name for themselves all these years. Cement business: With the launch of a Greenfield project at Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, Dalmia Cements is expanding their cement footprint in the South. With high pace of growth, the company is thinking of setting up 2 more cement plants with an investment plan of around Rs 3000 crores.

Sugar business: In the mid-nineties, Dalmia Cements started its operations with sugar manufacturing, with a unit Ramgarh Chini Mills in Distt. Sitapur, U.P. The installed capacity at that point of time was 2500 TCD (tonnes cane crushing per day) which got augmented to 7500 TCD. Firstly, they had one sugar-manufacturing unit, which went on to become three operational units, totaling an installed capacity of 22500 tons of cane crush per day. This resulted to about 300,000 MT per annum sugar manufacturing. Manufacture and sale of sugar is responsible for the bulk portion of Dalmia's revenue.

Research & Development

The Research and Development (R&D) processes of Dalmia Cement are done through its own in-house facility set up at Salem. The R&D wing is under the administrative control of Dalmia Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research. The principal focus of research is product development.
