Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), one of the largest aerospace company was established on October 1, 1964. HAL was set up as a amalgamation of Hindustan Aircraft Limited along with Aeronautics India Limited and Aircraft Manufacturing Depot located in Kanpur, India.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has it headquarter located at Bangalore, India. HAL is one of the largest aerospace company which is run by the Ministry of Defense. The principal activities of HAL involves manufacturing aircraft, aerospace, navigation, and instruments for communication purposes. HAL set up its first military aircraft in South Asia. The first indigenous warplane in India known as the HF-24 Marut fighter-bomber was constructed by Kurt Tank, a German engineer by profession. There are some domestic and global aerospace agencies who have entered a collaboration with HAL namely Aeronautical Development Agency, BAE Systems, Dassault Aviation, Indian Space Research Organization, Israel Aircraft Industries, Mikoyan-Gurevich, Sukhoi Aviation Corporation,and Dornier Flugzeugwerke.
The R&D centers of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited deals largely with both defense and civil aviation sectors. The in-house R&D units of HAL manufactures 12 kinds of aircrafts and the licensed units of HAL manufactures 14 types of aircrafts. A range of products manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics include 3550 aircraft, 3600 engines, and renovated more than 8150 aircraft and 27300 engines.
