Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited was set up in the year 1955, as the Oil and Natural Gas Directorate functioning as a secondary office under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Scientific Research. At that time the organization comprised of a handful of Geological survey of India's geo scientists.
In the year 1956 the Oil and Natural Gas Directorate was transformed to Oil and Natural Gas Commission and the periphery of its powers were enhanced but still it was still under the Ministry. The Oil and Natural Gas Commission received the status of a statutory body under the act of the Indian Parliament. The primary function of the Oil and Natural Gas Commission was the planning, organizing, promoting, and implementing protocols for the development of petroleum based resources and petroleum based products. In the year 1993, Oil and Natural Gas Commission was once again transformed to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, as the Oil and Natural Gas Commission was restructured as a company limited under the Companies Act of 1956.
