Bayerische Motoren Werke is better known as the BMW. The name is a class in itself. The name BMW accounts for one of the greatest car manufacturers in the history of the automobile industry.
Karl Rapp a German engine maker set up the Rapp-Motorenwerke for manufacturing aircraft engines. Later two Austrian gentlemen, Max Friz and Franz Josef Popp with the financial backing of Camillo Castiglioni took over the Rapp-Motorenwerke and renamed it as the Bayerische Motoren Werke or BMW. It logo of the BMW company was inspired from the rotating propeller of the aeroplane engine
The BMW is now one of the major car companies in the world. It includes brands like Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, MINI, and BMW. The BMW product lineup termed as 'Series' and placed with a single digit number representing a particular model and its variants.
In the year 2004, the BMW Company declared to place odd-numbered series for its saloon, sedan, and estate touring models and the place the even-numbered series for its double-door coupes and cabriolets.
BMW was introduced in India in the year 2007. The company is looking forward to make huge investments in the automobile sector in India. It has mainly tapped the premium segment now. The BMW Company also proposes to open up an assembling unit in Chennai.
Models of BMW cars introduced in India:
- BMW 530i: It is a part of the 5 Series cars, loaded with all the modern comfort amenities. It has standard equipments of the segment like roll stabilization system, cruise control, dynamic brake control, etc.
- BMW 760Li: It is a part of the 7 Series. It is very powerful, giving an output of around 438 bhp. The car comes with the standard issue advanced premium class segment features.
The models BMW X3 and BMW X5 are yet to be introduced to the Indian automobile market.
