Rural Bazar Goa

Rural Bazar Goa was set up at the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) located at Panaji in the recent period and was inaugurated by Manohar Parikkar, the chief minister of the state. Rural Bazar Goa in general is a portrayal of the rich diversity of the culture and traditions of Goa and its people.

The products manufactured by the Rural Bazar Goa are usually made from whole coconuts, cotton thread, sea shells, coconut shells, clay, and so on. In spite of manufacturing of such wide-ranging products, lack of proper marketing strategies and scope has led to a halt in the sector. The Rural Development Agency in Goa has completed twenty-one years in its operation and is involved largely in ensuring the following welfare activities:

  • To promote the craftsman working in the rural sector in Goa and provide the industrial sector with a better infrastructural development
  • To provide employment for the young generation and train the workers so as to make them equally competent to carry out responsibilities involved in ameliorating the rural sector of the state
  • To boost up the economic condition of Goa, the state government introduced a number of welfare programs to uplift the rural business in Goa
  • To provide employment on daily wage basis to the poorer sector in the rural region of the state during their off farming season along with providing long lasting community assets
  • To study the problems faced by target groups and introduce new programs as a measure to stop it
  • To identify the problems faced by the rural sector of the state and assist the economically backward classes in the sector such as the small scale and marginal farmers, landless laborers, marginal fishermen, rural unemployed youth, and rural artisans to come over with it
Agriculture being the prime occupation of the state which is carried out by the majority of people especially in the rural sector of the state and which is also a real benefit for the development of the rural business in Goa faced a halt in its activity due to lack of proper irrigation facilities. There has also been a massive problem of smallholdings in the region, which has a negative effect on the agriculture of Goa. But it is for the literacy rate in the rural region of Goa that has been a major cause for the increase in the employment ratio. The youths in that region are mostly literate and this gave rise to employment and also subsided the poverty line that grew out of unemployment.
