The Rural Development Department, Haryana plays a crucial role in amending the socio-economic conditions of the state by raising the living status of the rural poor. It executes the program of rural development by enforcing a number of welfare schemes to serve the backward section of the state.

The department of rural development in Haryana works in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development under the Planning Commission, and Finance and Planning Departments of the states. This association was formed in order to meet the target set for the improvement of the rural sector. The rural development department is entirely responsible for carrying out the centrally sponsored schemes designed for the welfare of the rural poor in Haryana. These welfare schemes for the purpose of rural development are executed by the District Rural Development Agencies at the district level. The District Rural Development Agencies in Haryana on the other hand co-ordinates with the Block Agencies and other departments to implement the welfare schemes in the rural belt of the state of Haryana.

Following are the units of the Rural Development Department, Haryana that are involved in the implementation as well as the execution of the schemes designed for the improvement of the conditions of the rural poor:

  • The Directorate of Rural Development (DRD) is aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the state by implementing a range of welfare schemes designed for the backward sections of the state.

  • Ministry of Rural Development, Planning Commission, and State Finance and Planning Departments are responsible to a great extent for financing the various schemes that will be carried out in the rural sectors in terms of infrastructure and other areas.

  • District Rural Development Agencies take care of the implementation of welfare schemes for the rural poor at the district level in coordination with the Block Agencies and other departments related to it.

  • The Panchayati Raj Institutions is involved with the execution of the welfare schemes and also designing and monitoring them.

  • The four units of Panchayati Raj Institution, namely, Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samiti, Zila Parishad, and Gram Sabha implements the wage-employment, self-employment, rural housing, and area development schemes in the rural sector of the state.
