Germany, BMW manufactures A-Class luxury cars and motorbikes. Karl Rapp, a German engine maker, set up the Rapp-Motoren Werke for manufacturing aircraft engines. Later two Austrians, Max Friz and Franz Josef Popp with the financial backing of Camillo Castiglioni took over the Rapp-Motorenwerke and renamed it as the Bayerische Motoren Werke or BMW. The BMW logo was inspired by the rotating propeller of the aeroplane engine.

BMW in India
The BMW started its operations in India in the year 2006. A company sales subsidiary was established in Gurgaon (National Capital Region), while an assembly plant was set up in the south Indian city of Chennai in 2007. The Chennai assembly plant initially assembled the BMW 3 and 5 series.
