Adidas was set up in 1996 in India and it is a subsidiary company of Magnum International Trading Co. Ltd. and Adidas Salomon AG. Adidas in India is involved in the marketing and distribution of sports wear, sports footwear, and sports equipments.
The various products of the company includes balls, ski boots, cycle components, outdoor apparel, skateboard equipments, golf apparel, eyewear, bags, snow blades, golf balls, and snowboards.
Within a period of ten years Adidas grew significantly in India. By August 2006, Adidas had 150 outlets in India . The products of the company are also available in multi- branded outlets.
The stores of Adidas in India are located all over the country. The company has made an investment of more than US$ 13 million in India, as per records of August, 2003. By August 2003, Adidas had acquired a share of around 25 to 30% in the ` 250 crore market of premium footwear in India.
The company has been growing at the annual compounded rate of 50%, according to estimates of May, 2006. The major brand ambassadors of Adidas in India are Virender Sehwag, Ashish Nehra, Sachin Tendulkar, and Zaheer Khan. The Managing Director of Adidas in India is Mr. Andreas Gellner. In 2006, the company had announced that it would be making an investment of US$ 3 million in order to open more outlets in the various parts of the country.
