Jointly promoted by Government of Gujarat and the Gujarat State Fertilizer Company Ltd., Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizer Co. Limited was set up in the year 1976. It is located at Bharuch, Gujarat - a belt of abundant mineral resources and reserves.

GNFC had commenced production in 1982 dealing in ammonia-urea fertilizer. As a matter fact, GNFC grew from production in field of fertilizers to new fields like chemicals, electronics, energy, and Information Technology as well. GNFC expertise are an outcome of world class technology utilization and thereafter, judicious exploitation of abundantly available resources.

The fertilizers manufactured at Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizer Co. Limited are potassium chloride, urea, ammonium nitrophosphate, diammonium phosphate, single super phosphate, calcium ammonium nitrate, and ammonium sulphate. GNFC is using world class technology from its German collaborators - BASF and UHDE, in its fertilizer production processes.

GNFC Urea is also known as Narmada Urea and is meant for a large variety of soils and crops. Calcium ammonium nitrate also known as Narmada CAN, is beneficial for cash crops such as tobacco, green chillies, cotton, mulberry, sugarcane, and potato. Ammonium nitrophosphate is also called Narmada PHOS and is coupled with calcium and micro nutrients to enhance normal crop growth.

Ammonium sulphate is used for paddy and tobacco cultivation, while diammonium phosphate helps in even and generous distribution of P2O5 in the soil. Potassium chloride is used for protection of plants against insects and diseases. All crops need the basic ingredient - Single Super Phosphate - at the time of sowing. Therefore, GNFC caters to extensive needs of the agricultural crops.

GNFC had set up a huge research and development center in 1986 for facilitating the quality production of commodities. The GNFC Research and Development center is well-equipped with efficient instrumentation facilities, analytical methods development laboratories, process development laboratories, pilot plant facilities, technical library, and high pressure reactors. The center facilitates the derivation of new fertilizer-based products such as Neem-coated urea and anti-caking agents for urea.

It has contributed to making working environments employee-friendly. To top it all off, the company has been catering to farmers' needs and conducting various training sessions with them as well.
