Bhopal Development Authority

The Bhopal Development Authority (BDA) was institutionalized on 2nd October, 1976. The Bhopal Development Authority was set up with the main purpose of enhancing and maintaining the beauty of Bhopal and for initiating better infrastructure.

The BDA has an efficient working body, comprised of the chairman, vice chairman, chief executive officer, deputy chief executive officer, superintending engineer, executive engineers, architects, accountants, public relation officers, and revenue officers.

The Bhopal Development Authority has undertaken a lot of projects for the betterment of Bhopal. There have been many projects that were successfully launched and implemented by the BDA and many more projects are in the pipeline.

Ongoing projects of BDA:

  • Mini-sports complex - An amount of ` 1,64,92,376 is being invested in this project
  • Subways have been planned near the Rang Mahal and Bitton Bajar.
  • Link Roads have been proposed under Bhopal Development Scheme. These roads would be constructed to reduce traffic snarls and make transport and communication easier.
  • Logistic Hub Bhariopur - The main aim is to build the capacity to support nodal and dual nodal mode of transport. Ensure modern cleaning facilities and forwarding services for the cargoes as well as other modes of transportation.
  • Slum Rehabilitation under JNNRUM - The aim of the BDA is to merge slums with the social and economic networks of the city and to improve the standard of living by providing education and medical facilities to slum dwellers.
  • Vidyasagar Phase II and Annapurna Complex Phase II are other projects being conducted by BDA
The list of future projects of BDA is as follows:
  • Construction of office complex in front of old Vidhan Sabha under Dr. Rajendra Prasad Parisar Phase
  • Construction of commercial complex at Vidya Nagar Phase
  • Construction of commercial cum residential complex at Panchsheel Nagar
  • Construction of markets and shops at Manisha Market, Shahpura
The BDA's contribution towards improving the infrastructure of Bhopal is immense. The state government plans to empower the BDA further in order to enhance the infrastructure of Bhopal, especially since it is increasingly being promoted as an attractive tourist destination.
