Gujarat Gas Company Ltd. (GGCL) was set up in the year 1988 with the sole purpose of procurement, utilization, and distribution of natural gas and natural gas-based technology.
The company is one of the major contributors to the idea of distribution of combined natural gases to the household, commercial, and industrial consumers. Gujarat Gas Company also conceptualized the use of compressed natural gas for the automotive industry in India.
The Gujarat Gas Company has also indulged into the business of providing finance for the easy change over by the customers to natural gas, through Gujarat gas financial services limited a subsidiary of the Gujarat Gas Company. In the present situation, the company is the biggest gas distribution company in the private sector in India.
It has more than 2,200 commercial, 170,000 domestic, 650 industrial consumers, and 30,000 automobiles equipped with compressed natural gas powered engines. All the major industrial sectors of the state of Gujarat now demand natural gas as the fuel as it is safe and less harmful to the environment.

Subsidiaries of Gujarat Gas Company:
- Gujarat gas trading company Limited : It is a fully owned subsidiary of the company. It engages in dealing with the industrial consumers for the bulk selling of natural gas.
- Gujarat gas financial services limited : It was established in the year 1994. The main purpose of setting up of this subsidiary was to cater to the financial need of the consumers who are willing to change over to natural gas consumption. The subsidiary also offers financial assistance to the household consumers for natural gas connection.
- Distribution of natural gas
- Development of better transmission system for natural gas
- Supply of increase amount of compressed natural gas
