The rising price of petrol made news in 2011 next only to the Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption. The rising petrol prices kept on burning the pockets of Indians and adding to their miseries.

The price of petrol in Bhubhaneswar in the beginning of the year was 58.32 rupees. The price of petrol changed on 15th May 2011 and reached to 63.29 rupees. Following an increase 0.29 rupees, the price of petrol reached 63.59 rupees on 1st of July 2011. The prices were up again by 3.12 rupees and reached 66.7 rupees in the month of September. The final hike in the price of petrol in the month of November by 2.21 rupees was enough to stir the Indians and the Government was forced to decrease the prices. Petrol was available 2 rupees cheaper during the later part of the month of November and beginning of December saw the price decrease even more. The present cost of petrol in the city of Bhubhaneswar is 65.52 rupees.
