Unless you have given up reading newspapers, watching TV and interacting with people in all possible forms, you will be aware of the fact that rising prices of petrol were among few of the things that irritated and enraged people of India throughout. Of course there were likes of Rakhi Sawant, Poonam Pandey and Veena Malik as well for the purpose but ever mounting petrol prices still managed to top the chart.

Price of petrol in Guwahati in the beginning of the year was 61.47 rupees. Following a hike of 5.31 rupees, the price of petrol reached 66.78 rupees on 15th May 2011. Yet another hike of 0.28 rupees on 1st July 2011 and people in Guwahati had to shell out 67.08 rupees for a litre of petrol. Petrol crossed the 70 mark on 16th September 2011 when it was available for 70.40 rupees in Guwahati. The next hike was of 1.91 rupees and petrol now required people to spend 72.31 rupees. The price of petrol finally declined towards the end of the year and the fuel now cost 69.12 rupees a litre in the city of Guwahati.
