Top DTH brands in India
DTH or Direct to Home service refers to a special kind of service related to digital satellite, which provides direct television programming to a subscriber's house irrespective of its location within the country. With wireless technology, different television programs directly get transmitted from satellite to a person's television who has subscribed to this service through satellite signals.
Being wireless, it does not even include any cable or wiring usage. People's nature of leading a hassle-free as well as quality life has contributed to the increasing demand for DTH services since it gives good picture clarity and sound quality along with wireless and several other special features.
DTH service mainly consists of satellites, broadcasting centres, encoders, receivers, multiplexers etc. The Direct to Home service providers need to have rental satellite Ku-band transponders. The subscriber needs to install a Set-Top Box and a Dish Antenna that decodes and converts the signal received from the satellite to data, audio and video signals.
As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI), the Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicators report for the December quarter stated that the pay DTH platforms have included 290,000 (0.29 million) active subscribers during the October-December 2020 quarter in regards to 120,000 (0.12 million) active subscribers during the July-September 2020 quarter.
India’s pay-TV industry would thrive at a 7% CAGR between 2020 and 2025 as the aggregate industry revenues, comprising subscription and advertising, are estimated to reach $12.3 billion by 2025, said a new report posted by Media Partners Asia (MPA) named India Pay-TV Distribution 2021.
According to MPA India Vice President Mihir Shah, “Robust backend systems, the ability to offer consumers flexibility in choosing channel packages under NTO and the exit of leading private channels from DD Freedish helped the DTH pay-TV sector grow even after the new TRAI tariff regulations came into effect. Going forward, DTH will be the key driver of growth fulfilling the needs of the majority of new TV households entering into the pay-TV ecosystem. Premium cable subscribers in urban centres remain vulnerable to churn as uptake of quality fibre-based broadband services including IPTV grows in affluent pockets of urban India.”
