Catholic Syrian Bank Ltd was set up in 1920 at Thrissur in India. The bank began its commercial operations from 1st January, 1921. At that point, the paid up capital of the bank was worth Rs. 45270 and the authorized capital was worth Rs. 5 lakhs. At present the bank has 334 branches in India.
Catholic Syrian Bank Ltd became a Scheduled Bank in 1969. It further attained the status of 'A' Class Scheduled Bank in 1975 after the value of its total deposits surpassed Rs. 25 crores.
As far back as 1975, the bank started using Data processing machines from IBM for inter-branch accounts reconciliation.
Catholic Syrian Bank Ltd has a strong presence in rural India. Around 80% of the bank's branches are located in the semi-urban and rural areas of India. Over 75% of Catholic Syrian Bank's clients belong to the financially marginalized section of India.
It may be noted that, Catholic Syrian Bank Ltd has five NRI branches, four Service branches, five SSI branches and five branches catering to industrial Finance at present.
