A majority of the profit earned by the bank comes from its business operations related to Wholesale Banking and Consumer Banking in Asia, Africa and Middle East countries.

Brief History

The Chartered Bank was established by James Wilson after Queen Victoria granted the Royal Charter in 1869. Along with this, the Standard Bank was established in 1862 by John Paterson. Both the banks worked separately to survive the First World War and its Depression. However, with the outbreak of the Second World War, the banks suffered heavy losses. They also faced a lot of problems when the Asian and African countries became independent as they had their branches there. However, in the year 1969, both the banks decided to merge.
