Methyl Methacrylates Industry in India
Methacrylates are the building blocks of the acrylics market. Methacrylates also have further application for they are processed to form specialty methacrylates and are polymerized into polymer, resins, sheet, and composites. The methacrylates industry has grown in recent times since its advantages been known.
The industry of methacrylates is highly organized and has very few companies. For this industry requires advanced technology and as a result a lot of capital investment is needed to set up a methacrylates industry. The price of methacrylates is dependent totally on the international market. Even when it is not economically justifiable, the producers are forced to meet the international prices.
The various kinds of methacrylates are:
- Methyl Methacrylate (MMA)
- Methacrylic acid (MMA)
- Butyl Methcrylates (BMA)
- Specialty Methacrylates
Of all the methacrylates byproducts, methyl methacrylate is the most important. For it is polymerized to form polymers and resins of excellent strength, transparency, and durability for outdoor. Methyl methacrylate can also with other monomers be co- polymerized to form products of wide range which are used typically for coatings, adhesives, and paints. As a byproduct of methacrylate, methyl methacrylate is mainly used in the manufacture of automotive, solid surfaces lubricants, paints, coatings, inks, and adhesives.
As a kind of methacrylate, methacrylic acid is a product which when used introduces properties like better pigment wetting, ability of cross linking, and adhesion. As a methacrylate byproduct, specialty methacrylates are produced through the reaction of various alcohols with methyl methacrylate. The specialty methacrylates that are formed is used in lubricants, surface coatings, inks, automotive finishes, and adhesives.
The use of methacrylates has increased in the last few years. That it continues to grow efforts must be taken by theIndian petrochemical industry and the government ofIndia. And only then will the industry of methacrylates will be able to reach its heights.
