Phenolic Resins
Phenolic resins are produced from phenol and form an important part of theIndian petrochemical industry. More than 50% of the phenol that is produced is used to manufacture phenolic resins. The industry of phenolic resins is highly organized for it have only a few companies. This industry is technology intensive and so requires high levels of capital investment. In fact the industry of phenolic resins is dominated by PSUs and private companies.
The price of the phenolic resins is highly volatile for it is dependent totally on the international market. Producers are forced to match the international prices even when it is not economically justifiable. Phenolic resins are sold mainly through stockists, C& F channel, and distributors and this addresses the market of retail and smaller segments. Large volumes of phenolic resins are also sold to the company's directly .
In recent times the phenolic resins industry have faced a slow down as a result of which the industry have suffered. This has been mainly due to the fact that new companies have not been set up and investments have slowed down in the phenolic resins industry. There is also a built up of excess capacity and so focus must be given to the export of phenolic resins.
Phenolic resin is used in the materials where friction occurs such as brake linings, heavy duty linings, clutch facing, disc pads, railway brake blocks, and gaskets. The majorIndia companies producing phenolic resins are:
- Forace Polymers Pvt. Ltd.
- Asian Lignin Manufacturing Pvt. Ltd.
- Bharat Resins Pvt. Ltd.
- Industrial Resins and Chemicals
- New tech PolymersIndia Pvt. Ltd.
Phenolic resins have witnessed a decline in sales in the recent past. That there is growth in the phenolic resin's industry, efforts must be taken by theIndian petrochemical industry and the government ofIndia.
